About Jai Pyne

Jai Pyne is a composer, producer, songwriter and artist from Sydney.
Jai has always made music that sits at the intersection of art and pop, striving to include the best elements of each into his practice; which through his work as a composer includes compositions for award winning films, web series and contemporary dance.

He was the main songwriter, producer and frontman of Sydney indie darlings The Paper Scissors, before turning his attention to composing for film and tv.

Recent work includes ‘Mate’ (Grand Prix, best International Film, Clermont Film festival 2022, Melbourne International Film Festival ‘22, Palm Springs International Film Festival ‘22, Sydney Film Festival ‘22) ‘Alba’ (official selection Sydney Film Festival ‘21, Melbourne International Film Festival ‘21, Tropfest 2022), dance work ‘Narcifixion’ at Riverside Theatre 2021, ‘Good Times Bad Moon’ (Independent Shorts Awards ‘21, Flickerfest 2022) and comedy web series ‘Domesticated’ (‘22).

With The Paper Scissors, Jai produced several critically acclaimed releases and performed at Falls Festival, Peat’s Ridge Festival, Sydney Theatre Company and other iconic Australian venues. Jai’s work with The Paper Scissors was synced to high profile television shows including Underbelly Season 1 and numerous advertisements. The Paper Scissors last album ‘In Loving Memory’ was described as “a feat of originality and discipline” and “One of the most indisputably forward thinking albums of 2011”

Previous clients and festivals include Sydney Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, Flickerfest, Latin Film Market, Melbourne International Film festival, Dumbo Film Festival, Bondi Harvest, Matchbox Pictures, Curiousworks, Nook Studios, Eb & Bow Dance Studio, Australian Dance Awards, Level Two Music, Anton (choreographer), Province Studio, ABC Radio, Fbi Radio and Powerhouse Museum.

He continues to make original music which he releases through his label Turktown which he co-founded with producer and composer Caleb Jacobs.
